Detailed Profile

An avid multidisciplinary researcher, Dr Himanshu holds PhD from RMIT University Australia (2010) and M. Tech. (Computer Science) from School of Electronics, DAVV, Indore (2003) respectively. His profession career spans over 24 years which includes various roles in Industry and academia. Starting his career as an Instrumentation engineer in 1995, he spent 3.5 years and learnt some important aspects of project management and shop floor communication with various stakeholder during solving machine problems. With quest for learning, he joined academics in 1999 and served as Lecturer at IET, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore. After completion of PhD, he joined Symbiosis International University (SIU) as Associate Professor in 2011 and served SIU for 8 years. During his academic tenure 2011-2019 at SIT (SIU), he served on various key roles which include industry-academia interface, exam coordinator, Member Board of Studies, Member Research Excuse me understand when you play Advisory Committee, Incharge Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Criterion for Innovation and Best Practices. Since August 2019, he is associated with IoT lab, Swinburne as Visiting Associate Professor.

Starting career in electronics, sensors, and instrumentation to demonstrate expertise in IoT, he acquired wide range of knowledge and skills to develop deep interest in multidisciplinary research. During 2011-2019, as course coordinator (Unit Convener), he used project-based teaching and learning approach during teaching Internet of Things, Wireless Communication and Mobile Computing, Network Computing, Artificial Intelligence, and Network Security. He demonstrated his expertise guiding students on various major and minor projects on cutting edge issues relevant to IoT, fog computing, cybersecurity, and machine learning.

As researcher, he contributed quite significantly in Internet of Things, lightweight cryptography, security and privacy. One of the key contributions is the start of IoT research lab at Symbiosis Institute of Technology in 2017. In the past few years, he promoted research and innovation in IoT in liaison with Industry and guided several PG and UG students. He supervised 04 PhD students to successful completion. Thesis supervision on Lightweight Solution for security and privacy for Smart Grid Network got special recognition and has been selected (as one of the finalists) by KPIT, Pune for Shodh awards. He is a recipient of Microsoft AI for Earth grant and has been featured in media by Microsoft as “Green Warriors for Sustainable Future” in September 2018.

His research specialty includes Internet of Things, IoT security, security and privacy, Low Power WAN, IoT networking challenges, AI applications to networking and cybersecurity. He has authored/co-authored 50+ publications in reputed CORE journals and IEEE/ACM conferences which include JNSM, MobiHoc, ICOIN, IEEE ICUWB, IEEE ICIS to name a few. Furthermore, he served some of the highly ranked journals including JNCA, IEEE Communication Letters, ACM Transactions on Internet of Things, Internet of Things journal as reviewer since 2010. Furthermore, he has been TPC member, PC member, reviewer of various IEEE conferences such as IEEE Big Data, IEEE INDICON, IEEE ICUWB, etc.
